Grade 4/5 students just finished their colourful tree artwork that they started before Christmas. I've done this project before and each time the results are fantastic. I created a simple tree template and printed it on card stock paper. Students used white glue and paintbrushes to cover the trees in layers of colourful tissue squares. Once the trees were done, we used tempera paint to create a winter sky with snow covered ground. The class learned how to use horizontal brush strokes to blend the colours together. Students cut out and glued their trees onto the background and used hole punches to look like falling snow. Some students choose to add details to their artwork using sharpie such as branches and ground beneath their trees. All of the trees turned out beautifully, I absolutely love all the colours!
