Grade 6/7 students enjoyed the opportunity to learn about and with artist Katherine Boyer. Katherine Boyer is a graduate of the University of Regina with a BFA in Sculpture and an emphasis on Printmaking. As an emerging Métis artist, Boyer's work is a crossover between traditional and non-traditional printmaking, sculpture and beadwork. Boyer is passionate about engaging with students through exhibitions and programming aimed to encourage critical dialogue around Indigenous issues. Boyer offered our students a virtual tour of her work within the Canada Council of Arts space in Ottawa, and responded to a variety of questions from students. Boyer shared with students how her work represents a rediscovery of personal and cultural history, and her joy to be able to share this knowledge and art with family. She shared how through beading, she found herself on a path to connecting with her Métis roots, and how in many ways her art is bringing history alive.
